PRIVATE APARTMENT IN
THE HOUSE ON THE EMBANKEMENT
The space is nothing else but a private apartment that has been hosting 2-3 day exhibitions with the focus on contemporary Russian art since 2009.
The specific location of the flat offers a particular angle to the projects organized there. The flat is situated in one of the most famous apartment complexes in Moscow that was built between 1928 and 1931 by architect Boris Iofan just opposite the Kremlin. Called House on the Embankment or The Government House and intended for new elite, is not only one of the most expressive examples of Soviet architecture, but also a historical monument. Many of its inhabitants are former power-holders who turned into victims of this power in the era of Stalinist terror when whole families living in this house were repressed. It is an architectural monument of progressive contrusctivism.
The projects are run by Simon Mraz, serving since 2009 as a director of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Moscow.
